New & Improved

Well, that's what I'd like to think anyway. When I was younger, the pages of MAD magazine taught me that when the package says "New" it translates as "The same old "crud" in a new box." The changes to the site are mostly internal. This website grew as my knowledge of building one grew. Along the way, a lot of organization was lost. So this site really needed some housecleaning.

While I was at it, I tried to make the site less whimsical and more professional (whatever that means). I deleted a lot of my humorous comments in the hopes the site might appeal to more rail historians. Thats about when a coworker of mine took a look at what I was up to and said "No, don't lose the humor. Thats why I read your site." The point was well taken. It is inevitable that one's personality will creep into one's work. So I decided to keep the humor, albeit toned down a bit.

It used to be that one would collect all this information and write a book. Now with this new medium called the internet, one can "publish" all the information and pictures one wants. Others can instantly view your work from most places around the world. And the real beauty is that one can make changes to this "book" at will and all "printings" are instantly updated.

So I welcome you to this ongoing "book" on the railroads of Galesburg and the region. You can join me as I learn more about the area. You can also advise me on the correctness of my information and, should you wish, add to this volume and be recognized.
