Q Freight House

(Photos By Terry Spirek)

Lying "railroad south" of the CB&Q depot was the freight house. These views are from June of 1980 during the Railroad Days events. Obviously, the freight house is no longer in use at this late date. I'm sure that it was torn down in the months to come, as the BN was revamping it's yard and facilities during the early 1980s. This would have been the "truck loading" portion of the building. Note that the streets appear to be paved with Galesburg's own Purington brick, as I'm sure the building itself might have been.

A shot of the freight house's offices looking in the direction of the yard. Note the "filled - in" windows and the painted - over areas which might have indicated employee's reserved parking spots.
