(An Invitation)

I would not be able to create this kind of website without help from lots of nice folks. Like me, they also have ties to Galesburg and the area in some way. Sometimes I hear from former employees and their families, college students, residents, railroad fans, or other "passers through" who have all had some kind of railroad - related experience around these parts. I am always inspired every time I open William Franckey's book "Cathedral of Steel". Just as his book records the events and stories of the railroad facilities and its employees, my hope with this website thing is not just to put up pretty pictures, but help preserve the wonderful past of this region. I would love to not only hear about your experiences, but post them for others to share. Your story or pictures might not seem terribly valuable to you. I suggest that you might be amazed how valuable your memories about the railroads are to others. You need not have lots of photos either. I am not seeking "professional" quality photographs - just take a look at some that I have posted! Your snapshots, either of new or old trains would be of help. Of course your name need not be posted, if you prefer. I do not wish to step on the toes of others who are working in this area. I only hope to offer folks another way to help reach our common and mutual goal of preservation. Our photos and memories will serve future generations to come, believe it or not!

If you have any pictures, maps, stories, or anything you think should be included here, I'd love to hear from you. Please drop me a line at:
